Brian White is the third generation leader of the Ray White Group. Founded in 1902, the company has remained a family owned business whilst it has grown into the largest real estate franchise group in Australasia. With over 1,000 offices, the company is represented in all Australian states, New Zealand, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, China, Middle East and Atlanta USA. Employing more than 13,000 people with an annual turnover in excess of AU$39 billion.
In 1962 Brian White, the grandson of Ray White, joined the business after completing an economics degree at the University of Queensland. He took over as Managing Director of the company in 1976. His brother, Paul, also joined at that time. A key decision at that time was to transform a strong provincial business into a national broad based real estate group.
Brian has emphasised that it has been the integrated strength of his family that has created this continuing growth. His two sons now play vital roles in the company – Sam White is a Director of the Board and heads mortgage broking group, Loan Market. Dan White is also a Director of the Board and leads Ray White Commercial and White & Partners. Paul’s son, Matthew, has taken on the role of leader of the St Kilda business, an important area for the company, in Melbourne.
“Paul and I have been the custodians of the company for a part of its history – but the strongest fulfilment of our company’s ambitions will come through the next generation,” says Brian.
Paul White is a third generation leader of the Ray White Group and is Joint Chairman of Ray White and Chairman of Ray White Rural. Paul managed the expansion of Ray White to areas outside of Queensland and the change from a company owned business into a franchise structure, gaining accolades for his work in assisting the growth of the company into Australia’s leading real estate company.
Prior to joining the Ray White business Paul had worked in rural Queensland, owning and running a cattle and grain property in the Condemine district. This, along with his rural upbringing, led him to a love of the land and passion for real estate in country Australia. In 1994, the Ray White Rural business was born.
Today, Ray White Rural has over 80 individually owned and operated franchises throughout Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Northern Territory and Western Australia. Covering all aspects of the rural industry and employing over 470 staff Australia-wide, the company has successfully marketed some of Australia’s best known rural properties and last year had an annual sales turnover exceeding $1.2 billion in rural sales.
